What causes wheel imbalance?

How our wheel balancing process works

We use a modern wheel balancing machine designed to measure imbalance with exceptional accuracy. During the balancing act, the wheel assembly is mounted to the machine, which spins it at speed to identify imbalance across both balance planes. The system detects the heavy or light spot and directs where the balance weight needs to be placed for precise balance.

Our balancing system tests for radial and lateral centres, force variation, slightly inconsistent sidewall stiffness and variations at the bead seat surface. This ensures that both the wheel and tyre are assessed together as a single unit.

Once the imbalance is measured, our technicians apply the correct type of wheel weights to the optimum position on the rim’s outer surface or inner surface, depending on the design. We use adhesive weights, balance, clip-on counterweights, or mixed weights balances, depending on your wheel type.

Some high-performance wheels require only adhesive weights, while others require only clip-on weights.
